Powered by research, technology and innovation the digital revolution in the water space is having a major impact on the water sector. To better achieve resilience and efficient economic development, water utilities are adopting a smarter approach to waste water management.

The Water sectors value chain links the environment and water resources to a utility, the utilities to their customers and their customers back to the environment. From physical infrastructure to water quality, to customer service and beyond, digital water can be integrated at every key point across the cycle.

Utilities are challenged by difficulties in efficiently managing scarcer or less reliable water sources in the face of severe weather patterns, energy efficiency, sludge management and land construction, ageing infrastructure and inadequate investment. Smart cities of the future face radically different system configurations; where surface water, ground water and storm water are combined as potential sources and innovative solutions are applied that allow source separation of waste and implementation of reclamation schemes.

Huge advances in the technology used in the treatment of wastewater and industrial effluent have been made in recent years, but there is lots still to do. At the top of this agenda for many wastewater treatment plant operators is operational efficiency, and it’s this fundamental principle that is driving our 2021 initiative.
